May the month of Festivals

May 23, 2014 by BFiskilis Leave a Comment

Filipino people celebrate at least one celebration or festival per month, but the most of their favourite festivals fall in the month of May.

May the month of FestivalsPahiyas
I watched this beautiful festival that brings the people close together. This festival falls on the 15 th day of the month and is celebrated by the agricultural communities of Quezon, a province in Luzon. Pahiyas, or the feast of San Isidro Labrador who was a farmer from a town in Madrid Spain. A statue of him is paraded through the streets while families showcase there best harvest they had.
The community thank God for the past harvest and seek his blessings for the next planting season. A festival to see

Santacruzan
Is a festival of the Holy Cross it is a nine day event honouring the Holy Cross of Jesus. Were legend has it that queen Helen found the cross on which Jesus was crucified. It is remembered by young women dressed as biblical characters, some dress as the Virgin Mary, and the your her girls dress as angels.

Flores de Mayo
The flowers of May, is the most important of all festivals. A huge grand feast honouring the Virgin Mary is held on the last Sunday of May. A procession led by a Float of the Virgin Mary. Local women dressed in there best clothes follow the float, and each woman carries a flower as a tribute to the Virgin Mary.
